Frankly, the Ukraine war is a popular subject in the European MSM, but nobody in France was very interested. Then Macron floated his military adventure idea and people got scared. The French are far more concerned about galloping inflation, and sky high taxation than Zelensky's retirement in Panama (or Siberia). Ukraine is a subject for the press and the politicians but not for the man in the street who will answer "Why are we involved? We have more pressing problems at home." Bardella is not very interested in the subject, oconcentrating as one could suspect onreducing our electrical bills and boosting the downbtrodden agricultural sector. Today it looks like he will win. BUT it should be noted that just before the European elections Le Monde Diplomatique published an editorial based on the Istanbul accords that were published by Die Welt. It stated quite fgrankly that the whole war could have been avoided but as usual nobody takes notice.

I agree. The man on the street (also) in Spain could not care less about the war in Ukraine - wisely so. He cares enormously about the effects on his pocket. Anyone unable to join the dots between financing a war which only truly benefits the US and sky high inflation is myopic. The sooner Europe reconquers peace in Eurasia the better and leave the US to find some other foolish war mongering sheep to follow them. They found superb specimens in Europe in most all heads of government, Macron and Scholz being shamefully the most vociferous. Meloni perhaps the only notable and praiseworthy exception.

I wish J. Mearsheimer would address how the oligarch class that really determines US foreign policy figures into the realist theory of great power politics and how great powers jostle each other looking for security. Ukraine has nothing to do with the national security of US citizens, but everything to do with the resource grab of the Black companies (Rock and Stone), Vanguard, and other finance capitalists.

How long has it been since a US president made a major decision against the will of the intelligence/MIC/ownership class and made it stick? I can't think of any since Nixon declared victory and fled Vietnam + reopened USA/mainland China relations.

The European Parliament, despite its name, has much more limited powers than a national legislative assembly. The EU’s institutional architecture is designed so that national governments have a significant voice in European institutions. To illustrate this:

• The Council of the EU appoints the European Commission;

• The European Commission is the only body that can propose legislation;

• The European Parliament has the power to amend legislation, but it must always do so in agreement with the Council of the EU.

The Council of the EU is composed of representatives of national governments, which means that while the European Parliament has certain prerogatives, they are limited.

The whole system appears to be designed to be opaque and confusing 😕 maybe to discourage public engagement?

I agree that on paper EU Parliament has limited powers. In practice decisions are taken without any consultation with constituents - matters of concern are never discussed at the national level. Initially I believed the UK erred in voting Brexit. Today in retrospect I believe they voted wisely. I live in Spain and I would not blink in voting for leaving the EU. Von der Leyen’s refusal to reveal the contents of the contract negotiated with Pfizer for the purchase of Covid “vaccines” is, in my opinion, an example of the level of corruption and obscurantism.

I cannot picture a second term president Donald Trump passively acquiescing to nuclear showdown and war with Russia over NATO encirclement. It is true the permanent state in the USA wants war, or does not fear war; this sort tend to believe if they all recite lies in unison, nonsense becomes truth. I think Trump would push hard to prevent war.

However, I also cannot picture Trump becoming president again. The Dems will probably toss Biden overboard, and Trump faces huge obstacles, such as bannana state tyranny and unjust courts. Trump is

strong and brave, but he's human. I'll vote for him and did in 2020, because of the illegitimate jihad being waged by the state against him.

I would agree, if not for the Electoral College System and how it works in the United States except for Maine and Nebraska the purple states, is not one person one vote. There is no 50 state and territorial Purple Basket of deligates and who ever gets the most total delegates wins. It winner takes all in every other of the 48 states. So your vote many times is not even considered for whom you voted for.

The aforementioned system was invented to get the slave states in, in 1776 when only white men of property could vote who owned land an/or slaves and when women were 2/3 a person. Yet this backwards nation called the United States still calls itself a democracy it is as democratic as Israel, LOL. Remember Ronald Reagan and Reaganomics another joke.

How about the backwards Ukraine were women only more recently are allowed to do jobs that only men could previously do, like driving a commercial truck what a joke - all those Slavic countries are a backwards joke - We are a bit better in Canada but not by much - the world is LOL as they still think mining the sea floor or lithium batteries are good, what a load sh*t. The informed know that stable non flammable vanadium redox batteries are the future; and how about Climate Change and globally preserving wetlands that absorb 4 to 10 more co2 that a boreal forest per square metre - Is that real enough for the realist out there? Swamplands - slightly more important than Ukraine or Israel but the U.S. keeps funding them, another joke.

I can only wonder what a genuinely great country the USA could be if these two guys were running the show instead of the Zionist Lunatic Swamp (the ZLS) that does run it.

I watched a British source earlier today, describing how the different elements of the ZLS (he didn't use that acronym but described the same people in his own words) can run foreign policy and can just ignore the President if they disagree with him and do their own thing. Supposedly happened under both Obama and Trump and no doubt other presidents. Credible.

The same British source – who is extremely distinguished and no doubt has connections both at home and abroad that very few men possess – wondered out loud whether the Biden-fronted swamp may even decide to seriously escalate in the coming months precisely to give themselves an excuse to 'postpone' the forthcoming US elections on the basis that the world is too unstable.

Of course postponing the elections – which I believe has never happened before – would increase the chances of forcing Trump to spend more time in court, so there is an incentive to delay voting.

I was surprised at the handle both of these guys have on Europe. Yes, they'll just do as they're told. Cowards, nearly all of them. Most European countries are nothing more than American slave states. We may as well wear blackface, call ourselves Kunta Kinté and go out and pick cotton all day long.

Ireland just got regime changed recently. The Taoiseach (Varadkar) spoke up for the Palestinians in NYC, while stood alongside a furious Biden, and what do you know, within a couple of days of that event he mysteriously decided to resign. Surprise surprise, a Jewish Taoiseach was conjured up, a Jewish Taoiseach that nobody in 'democratic' Ireland voted for. Someone in the swamp clearly did.

This is where we are. The USA regime changes its allies. The USA blows up its allies' pipelines. What next? Gets its allies blown up? You can see the calculation: The Russians won't fire at us, they'll take out the Europeans instead. I have actually heard it voiced.

I believe the reason that Germany's government are compliant with US policy to destroy Germany's economy is that the USA has threatened to re-open the question of World War Two reparations. Nothing else really explains why a country's government is cooperating in its financial ruination. Stop buying cheap Russian gas or we're suddenly going to remember what you did in the 1940s.

Both Blinken and Nuland are Jewish and of Ukrainian stock and are surely not alone in that profile among the swamp. It's almost tempting to suggest 'Project Ukraine' may be a sort of psychopathic revenge for what happened to their forefathers 80 or so years ago in this exact part of the world. Thousands of Ukrainians die, and Germany gets destroyed in the process. They've got motive...

EU it's just and was built with its Institutions to preserve Corporations power, to make it simple for one of those to go straight to EU Commission and get a deal, without going through each Country's Ministers.

Eu is fake as fake is USA, in terms of principles on which was built and the reality that doesn't need to respect any of them. Theoretically both EU Commission and Council cannot speak about war and arms to whatever foreign country as UKR is. But they do as USA ordered.

Actual EU Governments Leaders reflect exactly, with a couple of exceptions ,the USA policies, from Finance to War to Censorship to Health. So they do not act on behalf of EU Citizens, but they protect USA interests only. Just look at EU reaction and acts on Gaza genocide or North Stream US sabotage! They're just US servants. Squalid, paid prostitutes.

Most of EU actual Governments are made of Corrupted politicians very easy to blackmail for US/UK Intelligence. ECHELON and its evolution were invented for that unless you believe in the tale for idiots that it was made for US security...

You could say without any mistake that EU Institutions are the political side of NATO. Nothing to do with the word Community at all.

Another John Mearsheimer fan/ enthusiast realist fan who does not necessarily agree with him all the time as that would abdicate my independent thought:

The United States and the United Nations - Another "Realist View" on how single Veto Votes have outlived their shelf life

The U.S. is not about being the leader of the free world they are like any other country its all about a particular countries interest, another reason single Veto Votes in the U.N. Security Council needs to be abolished, - another Realist View.

A Realist Solution: Is 2/3 majority to pass any Security Council Resolution out of the current 15; 8/10ths of the U.N. General Assembly's current 193 countries to overrule or pass any Resolution without the U.N. Security Council consent.

Abolishing single veto votes is a relic of the Cold War and does not serve the future of Human Kind.

If need be, dissolve the Current U.N. just like the League of Nations was as being dysfunctional and reconstitute the New United Nations (N.U.N.). The five permanent Security Council Members can remain without any single veto votes.

At the very least the five permanent members could hold a collective veto vote but only over 2/3, but not over 80 percent of the General Assembly. 8/10 of 193 = to pass. (154.4)

The United States is a Global Threat to Peace, Harmony and Enjoyment of Life of the world due to "Lobby Influences" of Congress whether that be AIPAC the Fossil Fuel Industry or the NRA, the list of these negative Lobby Influences is endless; this makes for a unstable country controlled by Foreign and Corporate Interests.

The United States portrays an idyllic view of itself as daddy knows best but more often its foreign and domestic policies are based in religion or personal philosophy based on history that no longer applies for the future.

P.S. The world is bigger than the European Union one just has to Wikipedia Berlin Conference - how did that work out for Africa? Let's not live in the past.

Elimination of UN Security Council would make the UN largely irrelevant as was, in my view, the Leage of Nations. It's not a great institution but it is not irrelevant either. Right now, it seems like the best that can be done.

Expand full comment

Dear Jeff Boyd: I was not talking about eliminating the U.N. Security Council, but eliminating the single veto vote by one of it's 5 permanent members.

The idea is what is the point of one of the chosen 5 dictating to the rest of the world like daddy knows best?

Why not just 2/3 majority to pass a resolution and at the very least all five permanent members have to agree to over rule the 2/3; What is wrong with that?

And 80 percent of the General assembly vote could over rule all of them if they so choose, 80 percent to pass something is a pretty high bar

West and Westernism values are indefensible, calling so-called values indeed uncivilised and uncultured, even insults to humanity that we uphold dearly. All these barbaric values are to expand NATO's military outfit expansionism exercise - threatening Russia. Russia, of course, is a highly civilized and cultured country with a worthy history, civilization, and culture. On the other hand, talking about Ukraine's territorial integrity and sovereignty without talking about Palestine's territorial integrity and sovereignty - the US and the EU openly dancing in the nude and exhibiting their stark nakedness is indeed shameless and regrettable. Just like Ukraine's sovereignty - Palestinian people have not sold or given their territorial integrity and sovereignty on the platter to brutal colonialists either for their expansionism of Europe in the Middle East.
