On 12 June 2024, Lt. Col. (ret) Danny Davis and I discussed the recent European elections for the EU and what they might mean for bringing the Ukraine war to an end. I argued that they will have little effect, and argued instead that the only election that might — and I underline the word might — change the course of events in Ukraine is if Trump beats Biden in the November election.

Frankly, the Ukraine war is a popular subject in the European MSM, but nobody in France was very interested. Then Macron floated his military adventure idea and people got scared. The French are far more concerned about galloping inflation, and sky high taxation than Zelensky's retirement in Panama (or Siberia). Ukraine is a subject for the press and the politicians but not for the man in the street who will answer "Why are we involved? We have more pressing problems at home." Bardella is not very interested in the subject, oconcentrating as one could suspect onreducing our electrical bills and boosting the downbtrodden agricultural sector. Today it looks like he will win. BUT it should be noted that just before the European elections Le Monde Diplomatique published an editorial based on the Istanbul accords that were published by Die Welt. It stated quite fgrankly that the whole war could have been avoided but as usual nobody takes notice.
I wish J. Mearsheimer would address how the oligarch class that really determines US foreign policy figures into the realist theory of great power politics and how great powers jostle each other looking for security. Ukraine has nothing to do with the national security of US citizens, but everything to do with the resource grab of the Black companies (Rock and Stone), Vanguard, and other finance capitalists.
