I would think Prof. M (i am a fan btw) would understand why people don’t believe that Putin wants a “neutral” Ukraine. The fear is that Putin wants a helpless Ukraine which can be manipulated/used to Russia’s (not Ukraine’s) benefit. The fear is that allowing Russia to succeed will lead to a Putin cancer that will metastasize.
I was disappointed that these concerns weren’t addressed.
I remember trying to work that out a couple of months ago. I *think* it's something to do with pre-WW1 map boundaries, with the German, Austro-Hungarian, and Russian empires.
It’s not just Ukraine that you want to sell out to Russia, but the whole of Europe. This is the end of the transatlantic relationship and of the USA’s superpower status, which was built on the Western alliance it has now consigned to the trash. The USA’s future is to be the world’s biggest regional power and a concern for everybody else that will need to be balanced. Do i need to spell out what this means for the USD?
Ukraine was "Sold out" when the DNC cabal couped Kiev, installed their own puppets, and prepared them for the planned future war against Russia.
If China forcibly couped Guatamala, and started preparing them to attack the USA, installing long range missiles to attack American cities, it is OBVIOUS what what happen to the people of Guatamala in such a scenario - and it wouldn't be good.
Half of Ukraine is historic Russian lands, filled with Russian speakers, and Russian Orthodox Xians. At no point did more than 25% of Ukrainians ever WANT to join NATO - because they aren't actually that stupid.
Zelensky was elected on the promise of ENDING the war against the East, and the tensions with Russia. That's one hell of a broken election promise, I'm sure you'll agree.
As for the US and it's hyperpower status, that was built upon the decades pre-WW2 of building an industrial base, improving general education, the New Deal provisions, and after WW2 was the sole industrial power that hadn't been bombed flat.
Since the 80s, Reagan, Clinton, they actively destroyed the industrial base (To undermine the American labour unions and transfer wealth to the ruling classes); education has been turned into a joke and would require decades of massive investment to reverse; and all the basics of an advanced civilisation have been hollowed out for financialisation and the 'stock market' - which goes up as the real economy collapses.
The US was betrayed by its greedy sociopathic oligarchs.
Not by John and Daniel.
The USD was undermined by the ever-increasing "Sanctions" regimes, which WEAPONISED the USD. It is inevitable that those so sanctioned will find alternatives. Wouldn't you?
Ukraine does not occupy “historically Russian lands” and anyway borders should only be modified by agreement. All your other points are about US internal politics and not relevant to this discussion.
Making statements does not mean they are true. Novorussia is historic Russian lands. The majority population is Russian, who speak Russian. You can stick your head in the sand, but that doesn't change the facts.
As for "By agreement" - does that also include the neocon coup of Kiev in 2014? Or is anything the vile American Empire does OK in your view?
Have you imbibed the fascist Blinken's 'Rules Based Order' so heavily you can't imagine other people having a say, and having to respond to such naked aggression?
As for your foolish claim that the American Empire and its internal dynamics are not connected, you are clearly living in loud cuckoo land. Running an Empire is a vastly expensive business, and requires at the very least a solid domestic industrial base. Which your ruling classes exported/demolished... oh dear oh dear oh dear.
American unbridled greed brought down your Empire in record time, and your country has much further to fall before it can correct this path - which in fact Trump is accelerating, and there's not one US politician with the policies to reverse this (Clue, you need a New New Deal).
Your stormtroopers have occupied my country since WW2, meddled in our politics and internal affairs beyond belief (Pompous Pompeo said that "Corbyn will not be allowed to win, ffs), and frankly we've had enough of you and your CIA puppets running OUR country into the ground for your own Imperial benefit.
This also won't be changed any time soon, but finally we can see on the horizon the end of the American Empire. I will crack a bottle of bubbly once the last occupying US base on our soil is closed.
Look up Brenton Woods. The moment Nixon took us off the gold standard the USD was doomed because it became fiat currency and all fiat currencies die an ugly death.
Additionally, we just spent the last 50 years ransacking the entire globe wholesale with our forever wars, coups, regime changes, interventions, insurrections, covert operations and sanctioning social democracies while aiding repressive regimes. I can think of a lot of reasons why a lot of countries want an alternative to the US dollar.
We have no business in that part of the country. We organized, supported and funded regime changes in Ukraine and Georgia. Then encouraged them to join NATO. Really? When the USSR (Russia) tried to put missiles in Cuba back in the 60’s, the US issued an ultimatum to the Soviet Union, get the fuck out or else (I’m paraphrasing). The world held its collective breath. Today we call that FAFO. What makes you think a superpower was going to allow NATO to put bases in their backyard with missiles pointed right at them? Putin made it very clear to all involved what would happen. He even annexed the Crimea in 2014 as a warning sign. But the US and the EU didn’t listen.
This proxy war has destroyed an entire generation of Ukrainians, displaced hundreds of thousands, Ukraine has lost territory and has sustained some structural damage. The American people are saddled with more fiscal debt. A debt that everyone knows the US will never repay because it can’t…ever. The USD has nowhere to go but 💨
Actually, all currencies have died an ugly death. The Romans diluted their actual coins so much there was barely 5% of the supposed worth in them.
And the REAL killer of currencies, is the 'interest bearing' part.
If you have a fx 5% base interest rate, that means your real economy has to grow by at least 5% every year, just to pay back the interest. Accumulative.
And it puts all the power into the central bankers, like the Fed in the US.
That’s all true but I was being specific to fiat currency. Coins lost values for many reasons of course, not just because they were tampered.
With interest, well, once you have an exploitative and sustainable system of economics (which we always did once currency came into existence) someone was bound to come up with an even more ingenious way to extract wealth. We need to change our economic system maybe to a resource based economy and definitely get rid of interest.
We also need some good old fashion debt remission or wealth redistribution. Of course, the latter would most likely require a revolution. History is literally littered with this endless cycle.
It's not clear what "THE DEEP DIVE" is a reference to herein, nor is it clear why, not to wonder how, this mysterious offering has targeted my inbox with an unsolicited solicitation.
At first glance it occurred to me that the folks at Substack may be sacrificing my promised privacy while playing with their AI algorithm.
It is clear that the "subscription" being solicited is obviously not already in force; but evidently the mere the noticing of it confuses the unwittingly obtuse bystanders🤡.
Your post was ambiguous. Now I think I understand that the mysterious entity in your inbox was from the Deep Dive podcast & not this post from Prof Mearsheimer’s substack.
Just wanted to be sure you realized that you were a subscriber, as I’ve accidentally hit the subscribe button on some truly dreadful publications in the past. (Though in this case, I suppose it would be an inadvertent blessing.)
My original posting was a reply to an email from Professor Mearsheimer's Substack which constituted the opening paragraphs of an article followed by a solicitation to subscribe in order to finish reading it. At the time of my posting there were no prior comments, and my sole intention was to stop such unsolicited enticements. Your initial reply actually fostered my being treated to several comments to the good professor's writing, so thanks for that insight 👍.💯
That's becoming one of my favorite shows to listen to regarding geopolitics.
Really great detail here! Thank you

Lmao Professor and Colonel, Trump was SMARTER than you both! :'D
I wouldn't have believed it until I saw it IRL.
Sucks to be Zelenski.
Fingers crossed he decides to personally take part in the last battle of the war, on the front lines. Shouldn't the "Capt go down with the ship"?
Better him than some poor innocent conscripted 18yr olds.
Sadly, he will likely be replaced by the MI5 puppet and psychopathic Nazi, Valery Zaluzhny.
Can someone help me find the map details behind John?

Perhaps even two.
“Novorusia” is something like “Rhodesia” tovaritch: an outdated colonial concept. Also, I don’t know why you think I’m American. I’m not.
I suppose you'd have a point, if Zimbabweans were all native English speakers, regarded themselves as English, and desperately wanted to join the UK.
Otherwise, not really.
So you're not American. OK.
I can be PRETTY sure that whichever country you are from, has occupying US Military bases on it. And that you have Stockholm Syndrome.
