The USA / NATO only has one reality. Perpetual war for perpetual profits.

How many soldiers and civilians die is of no concern, as is winning or losing.

Go down the list: Vietnam, Iraq, Libya, Afghanistan, et al.

I agree, but do you recall any mention. or discussion of that?

Not off hand, just observation of the obvious.

"So is the very structure of our society. In the councils of government, we must guard against the acquisition of unwarranted influence, whether sought or unsought, by the military-industrial complex. The potential for the disastrous rise of misplaced power exists and will persist."

-Eisenhower

Kennedy was perhaps the last president that wasn't part of the Duopoly of today where the COMPLEX really got going..

Eisenhower removed one word from a first draft of his "military-industrial complex," - "congressional." True then, true now.

Eisenhower was right, and we should remain on guard, but that comment is over 60 years old. Anyone who remembers the military draw-down after the end of the Cold War knows the political will to do this exists, or at least it did 30 years ago.

Ultimately, it depends on whether or not we want to help friends in Europe, Asia, and other places. I might come down on the "yes," but I can understand the argument for prioritizing our interests and letting the rest of the world fight it out and starve if they want.

I support want Russian actuons in Ukraine 🇷🇺 🪆 🇷🇺. America, NATO and EU are the cause of the Ukrainian conflict

Expand full comment

yes your thinking works best when you call a fullscale invasion by russia a ukrainian conflict. very good choice of words by you. a conflict and a ukrainian conflict not a russian invasion. the naive would call it a russian invasion but those schooled by meershimer can easily just call it the ukrainian conflict.

I repeat to you that Russia 🇷🇺 are not the source of this conflict

Expand full comment

no no no of course not. it is first of all ukraine, then nato, then the US. do i have it right according to the meershimer textbook?

As per usual Professor Mearsheimer, an excellent analysis of the current depressing conflict in Ukraine and Russia. Keep safe and well Professor.

yes, let's call it the conflict in ukraine, absolutely we will not call it the russian invasion of its much smaller much weaker neighbor. this way we can be proud of our sophisticated thinking.

It doesn't matter if one party has a firmer grip on reality when negotiating a settlement. It can impact one's approach in trying to reach an agreement, but in the end, all that matters is what the other party believes to be the case.

It is important to remember the personal relationship between Trump and Zelenskyy. Trump was facing impeachment based on his phone call with Zelenskyy and so I think there is a strong personal element in that relationship that is unlikely to play to Ukraines favor. Also, there may be more money and deals in rebuilding Ukraine rather than sustaining the war, especially as NATO members will be forced to buy US military arms even if the war ends tomorrow.

and of course that's a good thing if it doesn't play in ukraine's favor. there is nothing as unwelcome for the meershimer folks as something that would play in ukraine's favor. putin is their hero/victim

The US has been acting as Israel’s protecting thug since 1948. This unconditional support began during the presidential elections while Harry Truman ruled the country!

It looks like none. If Europe had remained as a pagan continent without the obscene, barbaric Christianity (Charlemagne the brute forcibly converted the entire Europe to obscene, barbaric Christianity after issuing an edict 7th-century AD and anyone opposed to slit their throats, including every man, woman, child, infant and pregnant mother) - it would have been a continent of wise, who respect humanity at least. If that had really (Europe) occurred, or prevented obscene, barbaric Christianity spreading into Europe - they would not have produced characters like Biden or Trump.

the best example of barbaric christianity is the russian orthodox church that calls the russian men or boys to go kill in ukraine. no other way to expand the russian empire. of course they are grateful for the excellent help from meershimer and co.
