Please do speak up and comment on Russia's use of torture in interrogation of these suspects. Evidence is all over the place that the suspected terrorists have been beaten up and tortured while in the captivity of Russian law enforcement. While I do understand the reason why Russians have gone to war to prevent NATO expansion to Ukraine, I absolutely do not see how, after torturing these people during interrogation, world's public opinion is going to believe whatever version of the story Russians are going to ultimately put out to pin responsibility on someone or some country, even if they speak the truth. Peskov declined to comment on this when asked by journalists. Russians' capacity for self-destruction remains very potent. I did not believe any accusations of war crimes committed by Russians uttered by West or Ukrainians so far, seeing their brutality on their own prime time TV, I now have my doubts. Torture is banned in Russian constitution so this also puts a huge question mark over their entire legal system.
Professor, would you agree that when the Ukraine conflict pauses or ends, we will be left with very disappointed allies, some of whom want to buy cheap energy from Russia, and some of whom want to fight and sanction Russia. How will this alliance hold together? If a security alliance (NATO) falls down in Europe, would the political alliance (EU) be far behind? Is a weak and divided Europe good for the US?
