What if? If most Americans had access to Mearsheimer and other critics of imperial US policy, the country might snap out of its nihilist delirium

TL's avatar

No, they are too brainwashed to understand when the truth is being spoken.

Americans have had access for a very long time. But most Americans are kept too busy or distracted to pay attention.

That and if the TRUMP REGIME cared to tune in assiduously to the Professor…. 🥱

Russia “started” the war with Ukraine because, as you yourself have stated, they rightly considered NATO (i.e. the United States) expansion/aggression as an existential threat. It’s difficult to know or understand their military strategy, but in the recent years it seems they were not prepared for developments in technology and air power by the West, or by the West’s unreasonable refusal to recognize Russia as a legitimate civilization. All the upheaval in the world and precarity of the planet is due to U.S. aggression. Not hard to understand.

Congratulations, prof. John J. Mearsheimer, with your first YouTube video. Thanks for sharing your knowledge and wisdom on geopolitics so generously with all interested to learn. If only we could get you a hotline to the White House, it might save the planet.

Am I being too pessimistic? It seems to be not about facts but instead about the number and volume of alternative voices - the “best” that money can but. It is a very sad time, not to mention frightening, when evidence does not matter. Nothing less than an abandonment of Western intellectual tradition. When only propaganda counts. Democracy is impossible. Hope, which is not a strategy, is all that we seem to have that the

present state of both Western society and politics can survive long enough to self correct.

Thank you for this! It expands on my own understanding of the roots of the conflict, which I've picked up over the last several months of listening to Professor Mearsheimer and others. I also really like the format of the program. Looking forward to more!

Great to tune into this first episode on such a critically important topic. Thank you!

Thank you, Professor Mearsheimer, for your lucid lecture. I'll do my best to bring it to the attention of people who should access it so that they will have a deeper and wiser understanding, which could help to contribute in lessening violent confrontations by states.

Thank you for the in depth explanation of military strategies and conventional deterrence. I'd like to see a follow up video with as much attention to the political variable. In this case, it seems Russia saw NATO expansion as an existential threat that would be inevitable if they didn't intervene. Were they truly boxed out of other options? Also, how much of this was merely the product of internal Russian politics versus a strategy of the West to provoke a war? And on the ladder, how much of it was actually a coherent strategy versus hubris, Russia mania, and war profiteering?

Looking forward to this!

I think another great topic of a video is to address head on those that say your predictions were "wrong". There were certain times that you made date specific predictions in regards to Russia/Ukraine that are being used to smear your overall directionally accurate predictions.

Good example here, where someone calls you the "Jim Cramer of foreign policy predictions" with a video of them that is cut from context:

Dr. Pape has been smeared with the same kind of silliness, and eloquently addressed it in a recent Piers Morgan episode.
