Here’s what I’d like to ask Professor Mersheimer: if you were the Israeli Prime Minister when Hamas attacked on October 7 massacring 1200 people, including horrific butchering, rape, burning alive, and killing young people at a concert -- and the next day, a Hamas spokesperson says that October 7 will be repeated over and over until all Jews and Israel are destroyed.
Knowing that Hamas has built a 350 mile tunnel system and weapons to attack Israeli citizens, using $2 billion of aid money which could otherwise have helped the civilian population, and keeps themselves beneath neighborhoods, mosques, hospitals, and schools to prevent Israel from going after them -- using Palestinian citizens as human shields -- what would you do?
You have said that Israel has the right to defend itself against Hamas. OK, so you are in charge. What is your strategy?
JOHN,
I have tremendous respect for your intelligence, honesty, and human decency. Thank you so much for showing that all is not lost in academia.
