I haven’t listened to the podcast yet but the answer to the questions you pose is simple. The answer is that we in the US should have followed John Mearsheimer’s advice regarding Isreal and Ukraine from the start.
If Trump would want to make the situation much better in Ukraine he would do the right thing and negotiate a settlement with Putin following John Mearsheimer’s prescription.
If Trump would want to do the right thing with regard to Israel he would follow John Mearsheimer’s and Stephen Walt’s advice and stop the violence against the Palestinians, slowly wean the Israelis off of US support and quit allowing the tail to wag the dog.
