Well, I'm not really a novice at this, and of course rely heavily on the net to provide information. I was very involved in the anti-war movement which of course had zero impact. During the Bush/Cheney years people seemed more aware, but when Obama, a democrat, came into office people went silent who were vocal during the Bush/Cheney administration. Never spoke of his trying to overthrow Assad, or Timber Sycamore, and somehow when it came to Libya one would think Clinton, Rice and Summers acted on their own, and Obama was no where to be found. Not even his coup in Ukraine was put on his shoulders and Nuland took the heat for that. Not that a neocon like her wasn't happy. I don't think people know, or knew our wars were fought for Israel. All of them. Of course none of that was known, or spoken of even though Netanyahu pushed the war in Iraq with the claim Hussein was on his way to developing nuclear weapons, and listed the wars that needed to be implemented, and we did his bidding, accept for Iran, all of which he laid out in his book, Fighting Terrorism. Jeffery Sachs did a great interview on Tucker Carlson on this and was worth while watching. I did know about AIPAC and their influence, but I never understood the degree of power they exert in this country. I think it's outrageous that Miriam Adelson can so openly give Trump so much money to get rid of the Palestinians in the West Bank, and you would think it would be highly condemned, but of course not.
Well, I remember reading he wanted oversight in terms of their nuclear reactor, and was someone who wanted to restrict countries from going nuclear which is understandable. I think they are now looking through documents in regard to his death. I never thought Oswald killed him, and one of the reasons I didn't was their carelessness in hauling him out through a crowd, not knowing who was there, and low and behold there is Jack Rubi who kills him. I think the CIA were also keeping taps on Oswald before the Kennedy assault. I'm going to get more interested in this because of what is going on now. The disgusting absurdity of Adelson buying a president, Trump, to clear out the West Bank of Palestinians and now it's not even necessary to hide the immense power the lobby has over our political system.

Thank you for your profound insights and unwavering courage, Dr. Mearsheimer. Your dedication to truth and analysis is truly admirable. Wishing you safety, strength, and continued success in all your endeavors.
Dear Professor . . . please be advised that Israel is not engaged in genocide, except in the minds of anti-semites and their globalist supporters. Further, it is generally or always anti-semites that view chaos on campus as mere "criticism." For example, German and Irish folks have been leading anti-semites for a long time. Pity you didn't select literature instead of political science. What a waste of a great mind and powerful speaker!
Omer Bartov, one of the most influential living holocaust historians and himself a Jewish Israeli man and former IDF soldier has called it genocide, he’s an antisemite?
You are denying the reality of a genocide implemented by Israel against the Palestinians. You are not dealing with reality. If I say the US is not complicit in it, I am not dealing with reality either, and doing so because of the shame of it, the horror of it. Knowing Mearsheimer's recognition of the reality of Israel implementing a genocide, why are you hear? If you think you will change the minds of those who post here, you are greatly mistaken.
Dear Mark please be advised that Israel Shahak in his book Jewish history Jewish religion informs us that anyone who lives in Israel knows of the hatred and cruelty of most Jews towards non Jews. It's too obvious, objectively, to question in my view. If you want an interesting look at the issue, see A Campus Guide To Identifying Antisemitism In A Time Of Perplexity. I'm all for caring about human life, like the women of Afghanistan, Rwanda, Congo . . . which no one seems to give a hoot about. But when it comes to Jews under attack by thousands of the "Resistance," oh . . . they have no have no right to self defense and must leave those who imbed themselves in civilian populations to attack, murder, rape, burn and maim another day. Yours . . . Chief
Rexii . . . . you have 16 replies in this thread; yet, not one is reasoned. Asking about Trump and the "deal" initiative is fair. But let me ask you: could you briefly state why you think Israel has committed genocide? The ICJ had difficulty doing so . . . perhaps you can provide clarity. I don't view the bombing following October 7th as unlawful when Israel's enemy was holed up in Gaza with hostages and munitions being used to kill Israelis. Do you? Are you aware that Israel has been under attack and at war since the day of its founding . . . wars threatening its existence . . . brought by its neighbors? Now go ahead . . . tell me what Israel has done that constitutes genocide.
Mearsheimer, let’s be clear. Hamas started this war—slaughtering 1,200 people, kidnapping 251, and executing hostages. They refuse to release the rest—the one move that could end this now. They rejected the latest ceasefire even after Israel accepted. Your repeated use of “genocide” isn’t just wrong—it’s obscene. If Israel wanted genocide, Gaza would be rubble. Instead, Israeli troops go door-to-door, warning civilians and risking their lives. Hamas, on the other hand, openly calls for genocide. That’s not spin—it’s in their charter. So when you parrot Hamas propaganda, you’re not just misinformed. You’re complicit.
Jaffee, the real truth is not spoken by, you are putting forth disinformation. We get plenty of propaganda why are you adding to it? There is plenty of evidence for Israeli crimes against humanity. Max Blumenthal, at grayzone, and others have compiled plenty of evidence of Israeli crimes. Speaking the truth about what is going in the horrible conflict does not mean someone supports Hamas nor does it suggest that in so doing one is anti-Semitic, but denying the truth like you have and laying all blame on the "other" creates more doubt about the veracity of your claims.
Your rebuttal is all I need to know about you. I think he is doing a service for the Jewish people of America, by reporting the other side of the story. Your vituperative language suggests a cold heart and a closed mind and moral depravity.
A big thumbs up to Max Blumenthal and others who can face reality and acknowledge it. By your not acknowledging it, you will ultimately destroy Israel.
He uses Hamas to justify what Israel is doing. I don't approve what they did and don't understand why they didn't think of the consequences of their actions, or that Israel would use it as the excuse they needed to implement a genocide, especially with Netanyahu in charge, and his extreme right wing government. If you saw the speech Netanyahu gave in 2022 when he won, you absolutely knew he was going to destroy the West Bank for the Palestinians, and one of the reasons Hamas gave for their attack. While Jaffe repeatedly defends Israel on this sight, knowing it's a no win situation what he doesn't address is the ultimate outcome of this genocide which very well may destroy Israel.
thanks for your comment. You framed it and explained it well. This is a sad situation and there no good guys here, but plenty of innocent people have been killed or harmed. It will not end well for Israel. From my perspective, I cannot condone our (USA) role in this debacle.
Sorry but I don't approve of what they did, and what they did gave Israel what they needed to implement a genocide. If anything I believe Israeli knew about this attack prior to it happening, they were forewarned through several sources, but no where to be found for a long period during the attack by Hamas. However I am not going to condone killing people.
I don't disagree, and no need to be mean about it. I have always condemned, and from the beginning, the horror Israel is implementing and never referred to it as anything other then a genocide, and I'm well aware that the US is supplying the weapons and is complicit in it, but I don't need you attacking me, and misinterpreting what I said. That's it!!!!!!
Saying Hamas started the war is like saying Jews started the Warsaw ghetto uprising. Israel had kept Gaza under a brutal blockade with no sign of removing it.
Of the 1,200 killed, 400 were combatants, Gallant himself admitted israel used the Hannibal directive so we don’t even know how many civilians were killed by Hamas.
Hamas agreed to release the hostages in exchange for the war ending, Israel initially agreed to this but broke the ceasefire by refusing to negotiate phase 2. Their proposal was Hamas release the hostages and they continue the war afterward.
Hamas changed its charter in 2017 and now calls for a long term ceasefire in exchange for an end to the occupation. The charter of Israel’s ruling party likud calls for Israel control from the river to the sea, meaning the destruction of Palestine and subjugation of its people, they’re actually doing it, and you’re complicit.
If you can compare the Gazans, who (notwithstanding the blockade) engineered hundreds of tunnels, freely crossed over and worked in Israel, and received billions in aid, with the Warsaw Ghetto . . . then, in that case, I doubt that you are up for a reasoned (or even sensible) discussion. Consider Israel's risk profile had there been no blockade. As Richard Jaffe says below, his position is grounded in fact. These matters take dispassionate judgment, but I don't see any in this substack's proponents. It is sad to behold Gaza's predicament--and the "West Bank's"--but Israel, which has been under attack and at war since the day it was founded, is not to be blamed. What more proof does one need than Hamas' use of its Palestinian neighbors as human shields to make a judgment as to the moral depravity of Hamas. Under the circumstances, is it wrong for Israel to demand defensible borders? No . . . as I opened my Reply on Friday, at the root of the Israeli genocide conclusion lies anti-semitism.
You ignore facts, throw insults, and defend the same destructive behavior that keeps Palestinians from moving forward. You’re part of the reason they’re stuck, not recognized by the civilized world, and why even Arab countries are done with their rejectionism and choosing to normalize relations with Israel. Shame on you.
I feel even better about supporting Israel when I know my positions are not only morally right, but also grounded in fact. It’s especially satisfying when the people who respond with nothing but insults have no constructive or truthful argument to offer. That’s the hallmark of someone with nothing to say—when they can’t refute facts, they resort to name-calling.
Israel fully withdrew from Gaza in 2005. The people there had an opportunity to build something extraordinary—invest in education, infrastructure, Mediterranean resorts, desalinization, and technology. They could have become peaceful neighbors of Israel, and the borders could have opened to mutual benefit.
Instead, they chose to launch rockets into Israel almost immediately. Billions in international aid were funneled into creating a fortified military zone—with 350 miles of terror tunnels and weapons stockpiled for one goal: killing innocent Israelis.
No one has suffered more under Hamas than Palestinian civilians. Thankfully, many are now beginning to rise up and protest against Hamas.
Shame on all of you who continue to support this regime.
Ron Unz "disbelief in the Holocaust was particularly strong among high-ranking American military figures, especially top generals and individuals with an Intelligence background, who would have had the best knowledge of the true events"
Dr. Mearsheimer, thank you for not mincing words when it comes the genocide and ethnic cleansing Israel is perpetrating in Gaza. Their bloody history against Palestinians, their oppressive illegal occupation of Palestine and shameless land theft is well documented for more than 76 years. Only thoroughly indoctrinated Zionists, sociopaths and greedy business opportunists can attempt to deny this genocide is happening. Thank you for being strong, honest and for speaking out against this horrific slaughter of mostly women and children knowing full well these zealots are dangerous and will target not just people who oppose them with historical facts and verifiable evidence but even so much as try to exercise their constitutionally protected rights to free speech by criticizing Israel. They have enormous influence and power in the US. The US cannot continue to be Israel’s useful idiot. That will have to be addressed after we’re done with the current administration.
These Zionists are thugs and all countries around the world know what they’re capable of doing. The Mossad carries out extrajudicial killings and engage in state sponsored terrorism. They blew up private phones in Lebanon, wounding and killing many people. They are carrying out a massive surveillance program and using AI for targeted killings across their borders. They are breaking the Geneva conventions with regard to the conduct of war and treatment of prisoners and innocent civilians. They have destroyed all critical infrastructure, are actively starving the people of Gaza and have leveled a small strip of land with a ferocity never seen even in Hiroshima and Nagasaki. To allow this rogue criminal cartel that has taken over in Israel to do all this with impunity would be to endanger our lives, human rights, accountability, the rule of law and all the progress civil societies have achieved.
Prof, as a realist your continual use of the word genocide does you a disservice. You like to use the word genocide when referring to Israel but not for what is happening in other parts of the world, why?
As a realist, it is just another war, an invasion of one people by another, no passion, no rancor, no judgment. so then why the use of triggering words like genocide?
Well, Sudan for one, and in Yemen their was no question that the US was in complicity during the Trump years with Saudi Arabia in implementing a genocide there.
I do not disagree however, I think it's easy to lay this on someone like Trump, but who is behind this among the people who control the government is who we should be asking why.
I'm not laying the genocide in Yemen on Trump, but the genocide did span Obama's and Trump's terms in office. I have to learn more about this since it got so little coverage while it was happening.
I didn't mean to say you were, I was suggesting he's an easy target. To me, it gets back to who is driving these conflicts and why. I appreciate your bringing this issue with Yemen more into the open. I consider myself astute in a lot of geopolitical events around the world, but Yemen has only appeared on my radar more recently.
Genocide requires both intent and action. China has intent but not action, Yemen has action and debatable intent. The rest do not. Unless regarding Turkey you mean the Armenians, which is also considered a genocide.
I think among those you cite there have been references to genocide, but I also do not know the time frame you are referencing. Often these are unknown or forgotten crises. I also believe, in the West, much of this is hidden from us through propaganda or misinformation or simply non-reported.
I admire Prof because he is not like me. His is a dispassionate observer, able to rise above the rabble (me) to objectively look at a war, battle, or conflict with eyes free of prejudice and name calling.
You see you miss the point I make: If I wanted a Zionist apologist or a Palestinian backer there is no end of both as you can see in the comments... what I want is objectivity and when Prof takes tired old pejoratives and bandies them about he is no longer an objective observer, he is doing his reputation as a realist damage. Throughout history men have killed each other over land and treasure so this is not new and definitely not in this part of the world, so to have a realist look at an old conflict with fresh eyes is refreshing, prof failed to do so: I expect more from him.
As a child I didn't use the world genocide when I saw those old cowboy and Indian movies but that's what it was so I never saluted our flag and said with liberty and justice for all, and recognized it was certainly not true for Indians.
I see your point, but also in those movies we do not see Indians killing each other in similar fashion. We cannot ignore the tribal aspect of humanity.
It was tribal, but we were out to remove the indigenous people of the American continent. I really took it to heart and never said when pledging the flag with liberty and justice for all which was also true of many groups who arrived in America who were seen as less then, like the Poles, the Italians and Jews. They had to work their way toward whiteness as the book goes. Working Toward Whiteness: How America's Immigrants Became White: The Strange Journey from Ellis Island to the Suburbs, by David R. Roediger (Author)
It still is. The first bigotry of the USA was anti-Catholicism. The expansion of the largely WASP colonialists migrating onto what native tribes considered their land. They resisted and the strong beat back the weak. Isn't that historically what's been seen in conflicts around the world? Those who came later experienced hostility from the new native population, was that a struggle of whiteness or simply acceptance? I'll have to research that.
The United States of America as a whole is a mentally ill country in a clinical sense as illustrated by a Senate vote on April 3, 2025. The Senate is voting FOR Ethnic Cleansing; and has been doing so since 1948; and it has more recently turned into Genocide, Citizens and FREE thinking people of the FREE world is NOT blind, even if their politicians are spinless.
NATO, the European Union and the World of decent human beings are better off without the U.S.A in the long run as they are ruled by the Zionist Lobby, schizophrenic politics and spinless politicians.
The world needs their own nuclear umbrellas without them, including CANADA, Trump is not the concern, he is just the wake up call. The defective DNA of American People at large is the concern, as it seems the Senate is a representation of them!
According to the American form of representative government, 85 percent of the people in the United States of America are spineless or like genocide? It seems not much has changed since the 1830 Indian Removal Act.

The Trump family has the largest number of Jews in the first family All three married children of Donald Trump being married to Jews
Trumps parents were Fred Trump (1905–1999) and Mary Anne MacLeod Trump
Donald was a brunette in 1994 Now he is a flaming quasi orange blond Daddy Fred does look a bit Ashkenazi
FREIDRICH TRUMP
The Trump (original surname Drump ) foray into America supposedly begun with Fred Trumps father Frederich Trump who emigrated to the US from Germany in 1885 His (married sister ) Katharina had emigrated in 1883 Her married surname was was Schuster which is a German and Jewish surname Another of Trumps grandaunts married a man named Freund which is Jewish surname
Grandpa Freidrich or Fredrick ‘s Trump’s career path was of a distinctively Jewish nature He moved to areas with the Gold Rush never mining himself but “mining the miners” He moved to the Seattle area in 1891 and set up a restaurant /brothel in the red light district there .In 1894, Trump sold the Dairy Restaurant/brothel , and moved to the emerging mining town of Monte Cristo, Washington, where there was a mini Gold Rush Instead of taking part in the rush Trump serviced the miners rushing in with another restaurant/brothel and again made money In 1898 Trump started yet another restaurant /brothel named The Artic Horse servicing miners in Bennett, British Columbia,Here Trump entered into a partnership with the Jew named Ernest Levin
Donald Trumps grandfather ran three brothels in three different cities the last one with a priestly jewish Levite.
I apologize for the delay in replying; you may not be old enough to remember when Israel left Gaza and there was a kerfuffle as the gays, Jews who remained and women who would not mask up and Christians and moderates were slaughtered... Consider Ukraine today, you don't have to be bright, that is why I see it; there is a genocide and ethnic cleansing ongoing... If you are at all interested in history, may i suggest you read up on the Armenian and Greek and Christian genocides?
The point I attempt to make is; this is normal for war. If you invade, kidnap, and murder, don't expect to be treated well if you refuse to give the hostages back or surrender the guilty. Cause shit, muck around and find out.

Jews seem to have a thing about excrement, is it because many of them and their disgusting religion have no limit to the depth of depravity they will sink to
As I have written, the word "genocide" is totally unsuited to this discussion and reflects anti-semitism parading as justified concern that WWII-type evil is being perpetrated by Israel.
As those on this substack know, Professor Mearsheimer spoke with Glenn Greenwald on April 4th. Greenwald was a bit uncomfortable using the word “genocide.” The Professor was quite inconsistent as to the applicability of "genocide" to the Gaza war. At first he compared Israel’s conduct in Gaza to Rwanda and Nazi Germany, where the goal (by his own reckoning which he later walked away from) was to kill people. He relied on the reports of Amnesty Int’l and Human Rights Watch, without describing or critiquing those reports. He also said at this juncture that Israel’s intent was and is to ethnically cleanse Gaza by making it uninhabitable. Had the interviewer wanted to test the Professor’s position as to Israel’s intent, he would have asked a simple question: why did Israel never try to ethnically cleanse the West Bank?” Does Israel have a particular distaste for Gazan Palestinians but not with West Bank Palestinians? The answer would have cast considerable doubt on Mearsheimer’s position that Israel’s intent is to ethnically cleanse Gaza. Whether or not the effect of the bombing is to make Gaza uninhabitable is not the question . . . nor is ethnically cleansing the answer. Mearsheimer seemed to say that, maybe, the original intent was not to ethnically cleanse . . . but after Israel got the “green light” from Trump, Israel “ramped up” the offensive to the genocidal level. At this point Mershiemer is saying that it’s “collective punishment” that constitutes the genocidal behavior. Of course, no one mentioned that Hamas was told since January 20th to lay down arms and leave Gaza and the war would thereby end. In summary, Mearsheimer bounced around a bit and argued that if the results of warfare are punishing to the civilian population, Israel has committed genocide. Hmm . . . wonder if that analysis applied to Berlin and Japan. Mershiemer also contended that Israel has used food a weapon of war. But that contention has been refuted with facts by Israel, albeit much of the food entering Gaza has been intercepted by third parties. UNRWA, which had instrumental in delivering food, fired 12 of its employees in January after it received evidence from Israel that they participated in the massacre that sparked the ongoing war. I seem to recall that UNRWA had Hamas operations located under its offices. Israel is well known for administering medical aid to Gazans and other Palestinians who are in need. I find it difficult to believe that Israel is sieging Gaza and depriving its residents of food. But I certainly do not believe Amnesty Int’l and Human Rights Watch in any event.
Thank you for your insights and your courage, Dr. Mearsheimer. Praying for your safety and your prosperity.
Professor, Mearsheimer and people like him help me retain my faith in the American people.

Ha! Max Blumenthal. What a filthy, lying, self-hating, POS. He's your source??? That explains a lot.
Name even one lie. Every one is true. You’re an idiot.
Israeli Haaretz has publicly stated that IDF operating under Hannibal directive was responsible for the majority of civilian deaths on October 7

fraud and lying. He has also published two articles on the holocaust hoax with links to the original Holocaust revisionism by professor Arthur Butz

Your words alway strike to heart of the matter. You’re a national treasure Professor.
Please make an updated edition of the Israel lobby
Prof, as a realist your continual use of the word genocide does you a disservice. You like to use the word genocide when referring to Israel but not for what is happening in other parts of the world, why?
As a realist, it is just another war, an invasion of one people by another, no passion, no rancor, no judgment. so then why the use of triggering words like genocide?
What other parts of the world do you speak of and what is the situation that you suggests constitutes unreported genocide?
What goes on in most of the world gets little coverage in the US.
Yemen, Sudan, Congo, Syria, Turkey, Russia, China . . .
Europeans that conquered America, and practically wiped out the indigenous people, the Indians.
Thoughts from CANADA
The United States of America as a whole is a mentally ill country in a clinical sense as illustrated by a Senate vote on April 3, 2025. The Senate is voting FOR Ethnic Cleansing; and has been doing so since 1948; and it has more recently turned into Genocide, Citizens and FREE thinking people of the FREE world is NOT blind, even if their politicians are spinless.
https://kalamullah.com/Books/Pappe-Ilan-The-Ethnic-Cleansing-of-Palestine.pdf

Of course they are!! They are the American version of Israeli settlers. Liars. Evil. Racist. Evil.

Very, very weak Professor!
Courageous to insult people who do not engage in terrorism.
Meanwhile, the most significant development since 1945, or 1941 has taken place, and it is "crickets."
The road to recovery of the West is paved with antisemitism.
