On 7 October 2025, the second anniversary of Hamas’s breakout from the Gaza concentration camp, I was on the Katie Halper show with Susan Abulhawa, a prominent Palestinian writer and activist, talking about what has happened in Gaza over the past two years and what is likely to happen moving forward.
How can Israel ever come back from this? And what would they come back to? They were never anything but what they are now.
I believe that words can precipitate action, so it’s important that everyone begins to speak of a world without Israel. Let those people stay or leave, it matters not, so long as the Zionist project ends and justice prevails.

1) What comes to mind, for me, is the parallel between Oct 7 and its aftermath, and Sept 11 and its aftermath - with regard to the questions of who was actually responsible for instigating it, who knew what and when, what could have been done, but wasn't, to prevent it, and why wasn't it ...
2) the rather apparent, to me, fact that the destruction and loss of life on both those dates, was used as an excuse to "retaliate" in an absurdly disproportionate manner - and in the name of "the right of self defense" or at least retaliation - such that such attacks were a "gift" to the retaliating country, enabling it to "justify", in the eyes of the world ,doing what it had wanted to do for a long time ...

My second was to show how the damage, deaths, destruction that was done on both those dates were used by the attacked country - US, Israel - to claim justification for their retaliation, in neither case was the response actually justified - but, if you recall, after 9/11 , just as with 10/7, even now, in the case of the latter, how many people cheered on the outrageous response of the attacked country ...
Remember how much death and destruction the US and allies caused, and continue to cause, in Afghanistan and Iraq because a couple of buildings were brought down in the US - did what we did in those 2 countries amount, technically speaking, to Genocide? No, but it was enormous none the less, and continues ... though it wasn't all over "social media" for everyone to see, instead our media played scenes of the "beautiful" "Shock and Awe" campaign and Bush was re-elected - and it seems Netanyahu might get elected again as well ...
The point being that when a Gov't wants to do something destructive, immoral, to another country, it needs to have an excuse, a "justification" it can "sell" to people that they will rally around .... the problem is who knows when something like that will spontaneously happen, why not give it a nudge, then fail to "prevent" it - even, or especially when there are all sorts of warning signs.
