We’re bombing Iran? Yea - We’re bombing Iran. Is that crazy? Yea - That’s crazy. And we’re party to a genocide? Yea - We’re party to a genocide. My father fought in world war 2 in to stop a genocide and now we’re party to a genocide? Is that crazy? Yea - That’s crazy.

I suggest its time for everyone to get real about where all this could end up, particularly once hostilities have broken out. You can be sure then that it will be difficult to get the genie back in the bottle as suffering grows. We've followed the idea of globalisation for some decades, and now we're dependent on other countries for many of the basics. We don't even recognise from where we get things we need, things we consider important.

Well, maybe soon we'll discover the error of our ways, always seeking the cheapest; taking as much as we want, when we want it from our planet. We maybe going to learn the hard way.

Guys, this video is too cynical

An airstrike does not equal a war, and effective diplomacy needs a credible threat of the sword, which Trump lacked until today.

Maybe Trump is making a "deal" with Israel and its super powerful lobby: greenlight the Iran strike in exchange for ending the Gaza War. The strike also sends a message to Putin that Trump is not a pussy, which is all-important to ending the Ukraine War as well.

Kathleen Grover's avatar

A deal with Iran was previously reached without the threat of military attacks. Unfortunately, neither Netanyahu nor Trump negotiate in good faith. Had Trump not withdrawn from the original agreement which , according to the IAEA Iran was compliant, we would not be here now. Israel doesn’t want a negotiated deal between Iran and the US. The very possibility that such a deal was potentially close undoubtedly served as a motivation for Israel to strike now, days before the US and Iran were scheduled to reconvene. This unprovoked attack is not a realistic leverage for a successful agreement, rather a guarantee that no agreement will be reached. Israel is completely opposed to any agreement between its neighbors or between neighbors and the US. Israel’s only goal is hegemony in the region.

In the past Israel has used negotiation only to provide cover for expanding settlements, never implementing their own obligations under agreements, and then violating agreements. In the last 20 months Israel has conducted a genocide in full view of the world. They have refused to end their attacks on Gaza, have blocked aid, in full or in part, since 10/8/2023, and have refused to end their genocide, even in exchange for the return of all hostages and Hamas’s offer to withdraw from government in Gaza. In the last “ceasefire” they continued to kill unarmed civilians in Gaza starting within one hour of the deal going into effect and continuing throughout the entirety of the agreement until they began their relentless bombing again. Israel has had since 1967 to end their illegal occupation of Palestinian territory and eliminate Palestinian resistance. Israel has never sought peace with Palestinians because peace would mean an end to land grabs. To my knowledge, Israel is the only country that refuses to accept their internationally recognized borders. Israel’s foreign policy is one of violence only. They never willingly enter into negotiations and have violated every agreement that they’ve signed.

Over the years Israel has repeatedly bombed Syria without provocation and certainly not in aid of negotiations. Most recently, within one hour of Assad leaving Syria, Israel launched its largest aerial assault in its history. They attacked Syrian military locations destroying all naval assets, aircraft, weapons depots, etc. They have occupied additional Syrian territory and have fired on Syrian forces for traveling south of Damascus which Israel has declared off limits. None of these actions were to leverage a negotiated agreement, in fact they were a possible stumbling block to the new Syrian government negotiating with the US and others in order to keep the territory intact and gain international acceptance. These attacks were simply Israel’s first and only response to the possibility of Syria gaining acceptance.

During this same 20 month period Israel has attacked Lebanon, displacing over a million Lebanese citizens, and killing thousands. They invaded southern Lebanon, destroying civilian homes and infrastructure, and forcing the evacuation of entire villages. When a ceasefire was finally reached Israel violated it almost immediately and repeatedly. Israel remains in violation of a longstanding UN resolution creating a buffer zone, claiming they need a buffer zone to the buffer zone. None of these actions were in support of a negotiation, they were all in place of any negotiations.

Israel wants superiority of military strength throughout the region and will risk an all out war to achieve and maintain that.

If saddam hussain was a criminal for brutally suppressing rebellion within his dominion & can be hanged for it then netanyahu & his cabinet & army is probably 10 times more culpable. Any other interpretation can only be termed a not willing to see the truth.

Jerk Are you aware of Israel’s achievements These Arabs have contributed zilch to society and neither have the ignorant Jew haters like yourself

Chief Investigator's avatar

I actually don’t hate Jews. In fact, it’s a misnomer, because Judeans no longer exist, and Ashkenazim are mostly just inbred Slavs with “founder effect” high rates of personality disorder.

I don’t hate inbred Slavs. I recognize their contributions positive and negative, and think people shouldn’t be naïve about the negative effects.

Israel’s achievements? What does that have to do with me? I’m not Israeli, so I don’t care. What I do know is that Israel gets (steals through their lobby) around 30K from Americans, not to mention other countries in the West. Inbred Slavs shouldn’t be getting even one shekel.

Mearsheimer said that this attack guarentees a climb up the escalation ladder. Does that ladder go all the way up to nukes? Because Israel has them now and Iran will have them in a few weeks.

i see. well just because netanyahu is committing a genocide doesn't mean putin isn't . there are so many of you. you justified putin's assualt on ukraine and then made a big deal of how noble you are to feel bad for the palestinians. well, you can be against both. and netanyahu by the way supported putin just like you do. what nice company you are in. you live in the same house but think you are too sensitive to speak out his name

how very thoughtful of you to turn ukraine (40 plus million ukrainians) into a safe zone for russia. the fascist russia has a right to a safe zone, but ukraine doesn't have a right to sovereignty in your system. i see. that's exactly how fascists think. they want lebensraum, are entitled to it. and you agree. congratulations

When will we learn? The political powers in the Middle East have been genociding each other for thousands of years. You think we'll put an end to it with more of the same? No. It's time for the Great Disruption, and that's exactly what we have. All the talk in the world defending one side or another is completely useless. We must all elevate ourselves.

Absolutely foolish to think that Iran would have given up its nuclear program voluntarily through diplomacy, especially after the blatant statements it made this week about keeping it going. I don’t exactly understand how a renowned scholar of realist IR has managed to delude himself into the notion that preventing the world’s biggest funder of terrorism from getting a nuclear weapon is somehow warmongering behaviour. It is telling that he is clearly anti-Zionist and calls the Hamas war a genocide.

Dave Powell's avatar

"the biggest funder of terrorism" you've been propaganda-ed to a lower IQ

Nathan Philocalos's avatar

They have funded:

-Hamas

-Hizbollah

-The Houthis

-Several Syrian and Iraqi terrorist organisations

These groups have carried out thousands of attacks against American forces, not to mention events like Oct. 7.

Chief Investigator's avatar

Biggest funder of terrorism is Israel. Don’t take my word for it; read into how Likud actually finances Hamas (strange isn’t it).
